Wizards is selling Mystery Booster Commander direct

Mystery Booster Commander Edition is finally getting a wider release, but only as a Secret Lair drop.
Until now you could only get it at convention events.
Preorders open October 19 and the drop retails for $249.99.
Each pack is 20 cards, including a reprinted commander, a new-to-Magic commander and a playtest card.
Displays come with 24 packs.

Should this have gone through game stores, or is selling the fun stuff direct just how Magic works now?
